This is Dr. Joy Pedersen, I am a licensed spiritual healer and certified spiritual health coach with a doctorate in divinity as well as am a non-denominational ordained minister.
I have been practicing a spiritual healing process since 1986 and have had the ability to review past lives since then as well.
Archangel Michael came to me in 2004 asking me to channel and write his book, Wisdom of the Guardian: Treasures from Archangel Michael to Change Your Life, which you can purchase where books are sold or on the site www.WisdomoftheGuardian.com.
He also asked me to work with him in helping people clear their past and heal them of their karma. That is one of my gifts as well as the gift of being able to see the hidden cause of people’s challenges to clear it to change the future.
Over the years doing this work, I have seen many past lives and how they have contributed to the challenges someone may be experiencing today.
In our work together, Archangel Michael, has been asking me to begin educating people on a number of aspects of our work, this call being “Understanding Past Lives”.
I will begin this by sharing his words on the subject and then finish with my own comments as well as include some examples from work with my clients so you can better understand some of the dynamics.
Michael begins:
The majority of people have lived before. Those that are new souls, however, were created especially for this time for a particular purpose. There are a number of new souls on earth at this time but by and large all are relatively old souls in comparison.
There are very old souls such as Joy. She, as well as the majority of her clients are old souls. They have lived countless lives here on earth as they had a particular mission to accomplish here. There are those who have incarnated here for an experiment; to try something new for example, much like your vacations. They want a change in scenery or a new experience so they have come here to experience that.
There are others who have chosen never to incarnate and, therefore, won’t reincarnate.
But tonight we speak primarily of reincarnation and how it affects you in your daily lives.
All of you on the call tonight have reincarnated and are considered old souls. There is not one among you that hasn’t lived less than 500 lifetimes. Each of you came here with a purpose in mind. You are not that dissimilar from the others on the call. Each of you had a purpose to grow, experience, expand and realize your greatest potential. By coming to earth you have that opportunity because here you can learn faster than you can in heaven. This environment is the accelerated path to growth. It isn’t easy living in the environment here on earth but that is about to change. Why? Because you have grown and evolved so much you are capable of it at this time.
It is time for change, indeed. The evolvement of humanity came by and large because of reincarnation. Reincarnation being the process of incarnating here on earth and then coming back again when appropriate. Each time you have a committee and guidance from your guardian angels as to what you will accomplish each lifetime. There is no accident you are experiencing much of what you have because much of it was predetermined. Your free will comes in as to how quickly you learn the lessons attached to the experiences you chose to have upon your arrival here this lifetime.
Each and every lifetime has a different purpose. Sometimes that purpose is to grow and sometimes it is to serve. You have a balance between give and take; lessons and enjoyment. But, you come here primarily to learn and evolve and work out issues you have been carrying from previous lifetimes.
Each lifetime takes on new meaning. Each lifetime builds upon the last. Although each lifetime will elaborate on certain aspects of life more intensely than others. One lifetime you can come in rich and need to focus on relationships. Another could be vice versa. You have a meaningful relationship but struggle financially.
Those that come in and have a lot of challenging experiences have often decided to take on the accelerated path to evolvement. Therefore, that lifetime may be a bit more challenging than those who come in and take it slow. A good analogy would be the college curriculum. You can coast through with few credits or you can have a semester of heavy credits.
What you have to keep in mind is that you are here for a reason. So you might as well figure out what that is and try to make a point of fulfilling that purpose. So many think they have to explore and do everything when, in fact, you want to pick and choose from the smorgasbord of life. There are so many options to choose from that many times you lose sight on what is important. What is important is for you to succeed at what you came here to accomplish. It also may not have anything to do with your career. Many confuse the two. The career is usually an opportunity to assist you in reaching your life goal of the lessons and experiences provide having nothing to do with anything else.
You are provided certain dispositions before coming here. Your family is chosen to assist in the evolvement of those life goals that created the framework for this lifetime.
Your family are likely people who have had much experience with you in the past. They have intertwined with you before and that provides the opportune time to work out some of your past failings with them.
When you choose your family, you are moving into that family dynamic because of your past relationship with them as well as complimenting the life structure they have taken on. It is often a perfect breeding ground to support you in who you need to become this lifetime.
People are often surprised to discover they have chosen their parents given some of the horrendous experiences they have had. However, it is those experiences that have contributed to them becoming who they are as adults. Now the lesson may be that they are to overcome certain challenges presented by those parents. If they don’t overcome, they may not be receiving the lesson as effectively as it was provided.
Each circumstance may have a lesson attached to it but if you aren’t paying attention and get the lesson, you may have to repeat it until you do. If you go through an entire life without getting the lesson, you may have to do it again in order to gain the benefit of the lesson.
Reincarnation is your “do over’. How many times have you made a mistake and wished you could have a “do over”? Well, that is exactly what reincarnation provides. It gives you a “do over” and an opportunity to get it right another time.
Those that resist the lessons of life and take easy street, don’t normally get away with anything. Everything is viewed and known and reviewed determining next best steps.
You are provided a framework within which to exercise and experience certain life occurrences to help give you the proper muscle it takes to evolve.
Once you evolve to a certain point, you no longer need the lessons this environment serves. This is a breeding ground unto itself to further evolve your being into an all-knowing free thinker.
Your purpose here is to evolve and clear your karma. Once your karma is cleared, you don’t necessarily have to return.
There are those in heaven, who have remained there. Those of you who have chosen to come here chose this path for your own particular reasons and they are not often what you would think. This is an area of which we can explore at a later date. But for the the time being, let us describe further the nuances of past lives.
Herein ends Michael’s portion.
The word ‘carne’ means flesh. Incarnation is when our spirit enters a physical body. Reincarnation is the principle of returning into a physical body, more than once.
Under the Law of Reincarnation, if there is anything unresolved or incomplete at the end of a lifetime, your soul is allowed an opportunity to return to earth to resolve or complete it.
If you harm someone in one lifetime, your soul may wish to make amends by returning to help that person in another life.
If, for example, a parent dies leaving his children feeling angry, confused or misunderstood, under the Law of Reincarnation those spirits may choose to come back together to try to experience life differently. I have seen family members die and then reincarnate as another member of the same family now experiencing the same family dynamics from a new perspective. Thereby, learning a lesson from a new viewpoint.
Whole families often return at the same time in an effort to work out previous circumstances. There are groups of souls who have returned together to work out new dynamics from the last set they suffered as a group.
Often we continue to reincarnate into similar circumstances because of the desire to heal the past.
While on earth, we begin by having lost the spiritual aspect of what we know and experience in heaven to start fresh and learn from our mistakes in a physical reality.
Once we return to heaven again, our life is reviewed with the help of our guides, angels and the Lords of Karma. We then decide which lessons we need to strengthen and begin to make plans for whatever we need “do over” in order to ascend.
As we evolve, we then take on new lessons to enhance our own ascension.
Most have reincarnated with the opportunity to experience many different aspects of life. Usually the polar opposites of what was once experience so you can gain a new fresh perspective of how the other half lives so to speak.
With that comes the experience of living both rich and poor, famous and obscure, in power and disempowered, a variety of different religions, cultures and genders, etc.
With karma, you can be somewhat assured that if you once owned slaves, you will comes back as a slave. If you were once an oppressor, you will return as the oppressed. If you once betrayed, you will likely be betrayed.
The Akashic Records are kept by the Lords of Karma. The Akashic Records are the entire history of everything that ever has been, and everything that ever will be. They contain the details about everything that has ever happened including everyone who has ever lived and everything that has occurred in each and every lifetime.
When I do my work, I am accessing the Akashic Records which shows me things that have happened back to the beginning of time.
The Lords of Karma is the committee or team that specifically addresses the area of karma. One of the reasons, I have the gift of clearing karma is because of my work with Archangel Michael, who is in charge of the team.
Mother Mary, for example, always assists in regard with abuse situations. That is her area of responsibility as being one of the Lords of Karma.
There are many reasons why a soul may wish to reincarnate.
Some may include:
· to put right past wrongs (to repay our debts)
· to experience and strengthen ourselves
· to learn more about ourselves as well as life on earth
· to serve others by teaching or helping others.
Earth is a planet of free-will and choice. Every thought, word or deed eventually manifests into your life. Your mindsets and emotions build your physical body and provide you with opportunities to have different experiences.
Ultimately, there is a spiritual working-out of all things.
It is not up to us to judge what somebody else is doing or how they are handling the lessons of their incarnation. Just be aware that every single soul is on a journey over many lifetimes, and they are continuously learning on that journey.
It is also a good idea to be very careful as to how you interfere with someone else’s incarnation. For example, if a parent always did their child’s homework, the child may not be learning the lesson. Therefore, the parent is holding the child back in their ability to evolve. The same goes for the process of life experiences. It is fine to set a good example. It is another to take away the opportunity for someone’s soul to grow because someone was enabling.
The best thing someone should do is to ask their inner wisdom, Source, etc. if it appropriate to help someone at any given time as it may not be for their highest good and soul growth to do so at that time.
Now I’d like to address why there is so much disbelief and confusion as to the existence of past lives.
Often people refer to the Bible and say if it isn’t written in the Bible, it isn’t so. Apparently, reincarnation was in the Bible until around the year 550.
There are a number of references on the internet referring to the history of reincarnation being taken out of the Bible. The following is probably the most succinct explanation:
“The theory of reincarnation is recorded in the Bible. But the proper interpretations were struck from it during an Ecumenical Council meeting of the Catholic Church in Constantinople sometime around 553 A.D, called the Council of Nicea. The Council members voted to strike those teachings from the Bible in order to solidify Church control.”

There are many people who may be skeptical but I can tell you this, in being able to identify these past life stories, they explain at lot and it has helped cleared many of the challenges affecting me or my clients over the years.
Here are some examples:
STORY OF ACCOUNTANT:
Just today, I was working with an accountant on tax collection from the beginning of time. We went back to a lifetime where she was part of the underprivileged and had large portions of money taken from Him that lifetime and all others to support the monarchy and it was unfair. He was advised by an elder to someday make a difference. He infiltrated the castle and began to work there and got to a point where he could steal some of those monies back to help his people. He was never caught but always lived in fear of being caught. The woman today has always had the fear of getting caught.
When you have fear, you can live into and attract just what you fear so it is advantageous to release the thoughts and fears that will attract negative experiences.
STORY OF TRANSPLANT:
I had a man who had a heart transplant. When clearing the transplant discovered the donor was someone who killed him in another life.
STORY OF RECENT CONNECTION:
I met a man recently and had mixed feelings about him and discovered the reason was we had been friends before but also fought on opposite sides of wars to one another and in each war I had harmed him and in another, he had harmed me. We now have the opportunity to make amends and in this case I just cleared the past.
STORY OF IMPOVERISHMENT:
I worked with a woman who had trouble getting paying clients. I took her back to a life that she was impoverished as well as saw her as a him who lost both his child and wife due to starvation. Upon clearing it, she received two paying clients that afternoon.
STORY OF CHILD:
I worked with a parent once on his daughter who was afraid of flying. I identified a lifetime when she did, in fact, fly and was in a plane crash. I cleared that and she no longer was afraid to fly.
STORY OF MONEY ISSUES
We traced a situation back to a drought of a farmer. The belief in being victimized by circumstances beyond his control, kept him from believing in his own ability to trust things would work out. In this lifetime, he was always afraid something would go wrong.
By identifying the past lives contributing to a situation showing up as it does today and clearing it, life can change more effortlessly. Often the client feels lighter and better after a session and then as they memories and emotional attachments from these lifetimes are released, their life improves.
